Five ways to freshen up a bathroom without renovating

Your bathroom is one of the most visited rooms in your house, so while it might not be where everyone gathers at the party, it is still important that it looks and feels nice – like somewhere you want to spend time.

After a while mouldy grout and grubby sealant can leave you longing for something sleek and new.  Fortunately, if your bathroom just needs a little bit of love, you can easily make it feel new again without too much time or expense.

In this article we have shared five easy ways to give your bathroom a fabulous new lease of life without a full refurb.

Refresh the grout

Refreshing the grout in your bathroom quickly makes a tired bathroom look fresh again.  Grout reviver can work wonders and using a dark grout contrasts against white and pale tiles perfectly, giving them a modern look, and can even futureproof it too.

Update fittings and accessories

Trendy or quirky fittings and showerheads can give your bathroom a new look without too much work. For example, if you dream of a luxury spa feel, add a rain-style showerhead. You can also add small ornaments, candles and plants to give your bathroom a more homely feel.

It’s important to remember that if you are planning on replacing a mixer tap or other fittings, check with a qualified plumber.

Upgrade your sealant

Old or damaged sealant in bathrooms not only looks ugly, but it also poses a real threat of water damage.  Removing the sealant and resealing will not only make the room look brighter and cleaner but you can potentially prevent any long-term water damage.

Working with sealant can take a bit of getting used to but there are some handy YouTube tutorials on how to do it.

Swap your shower curtain

Shower curtains are a breeding ground for bacteria.  They also have a tendency to lose colour quickly and can soon look old and tatty.

Replacing your shower curtain with a glass screen not only makes a bathroom look more modern, it also gives the illusion of more space and makes the room seem lighter. As an added bonus, they are easier to clean and stay in a good condition much longer.

Clear the clutter

Decluttering your bathroom and filling the space with beautiful things always makes a difference.

Put away the shampoo bottles & cleaning products and replace the old towels with lovely new fluffy ones – pick them up in the sales to save money. Try adding some plants for a calming spa like experience.

Everyone needs storage in the bathroom so why not make a display out of yours? Woven baskets can be filled with toilet rolls or laundry and keeping it out of sight means your bathroom looks neat and tidy.

Add a new mirror

Something as simple as changing the mirror can transform the look of your bathroom. It also helps create more light and space if you have a small bathroom or lack natural daylight. Try swapping your current mirror for a different shape or even a mirrored cabinet to double up as additional storage. Quick, easy and can make the world of difference.

Accessorise with colour

If you have a fairly neutral bathroom, changing your soft furnishings can transform the space – often at very little expense.  Use bath mats, rugs, towels or shower curtains to brighten any bathroom.

As you can see from the ideas in this article, it doesn’t need to cost a huge amount of money or time to give your bathroom a new lease of life – and you certainly don’t need to be a DIY expert.
